Europeans for al-Quds documents Israeli violations in Jerusalem in February

The Israeli authorities have continued to violate human rights in Jerusalem in February 2022, with a decision from Israel’s highest political levels.

This month, Europeans for al-Quds monitored 1,096 violations, which fall under 17 categories, committed by the Israeli forces. The majority of these violations were serious. Raids constituted 36.0%of the total violations, which is the highest, followed by arrests, 15.1%. These violations have the highest rate because they occur on daily basis, while the other violations were still serious in terms of their effects, implications, and level of violation of the rules of international law and international humanitarian law. For example, the demolition decisions that affected many residential buildings and a number of facilities and the decisions to evacuate and displace are among the most dangerous categories.

During this month, Europeans for al-Quds monitored 68 shootings and direct attacks by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in occupied Jerusalem neighborhoods, resulting in the killing of the Palestinian, Khalid Karakea and injury of 106 civilians, including a journalist and a woman, in excessive use of force without any justification. Besides, dozens of people suffocated from the tear gas.  63 others were subjected to beatings and severe violence from the IOF.

The IOF also continued to carry out raids into Palestinian neighborhoods, including raiding homes and properties, harassing residents, and arbitrarily arresting residents of Jerusalem, without arrest warrants or searches, in addition to subjecting them to beatings and investigations for long hours, and imposing financial fines on them. The occupation practices detention against them as a tool of punishment and intimidation, without any pretext or legal reason.

The Europeans for al-Quds team documented during this month the IOF’ implementation of 395 incursions into towns and neighborhoods of Jerusalem, during which they arrested 166 citizens, including children and women. In addition, 27 summonses and imposing house arrest on 34 citizens at least were documented.

During this month, Europeans for al-Quds team monitored 42 attacks, which varied between 36 demolitions in occupied Jerusalem, which resulted in the demolition of 14 homes, 9 of which were self-demolished. In addition to the destruction of 16 facilities, the leveling of lands, and the distribution of dozens of notices of demolition, cessation of construction and eviction.

The report documented the occupation forces’ confiscation of 252 dunums of lands in the town of Hizma, as part of the policy of seizing and confiscating Palestinian property in an attempt to change the identity and character of the city of Jerusalem and seek to Judaize it.

During this month, 3,420 settlers and dozens of thousands under the name of tourists participated in the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which was repeated over a period of 20 days.

The Israeli occupation authorities continued to implement the policy of deportation from Al-Aqsa Mosque or the city of Jerusalem. During this month they issued 19 deportation decisions whether from Al-Aqsa Mosque, Jerusalem or the Old City.

The report documents 10 attacks carried out by settlers, most notably breaking into the Church of “Prison of Christ” in the Old City, assaulting citizens and their property, and performing Talmudic rituals.

The report monitored 85 fixed and flying checkpoints, 3 street closures, a travel bans, and 10 collective punishment measures.

The IOF also continued to violate the economic, social and cultural rights of Jerusalemites, imposing no less than 26 violations on shop owners and imposing fines on them.

Europeans for al-Quds Organization warned that these practices seek to perpetuate dealing with Al-Aqsa Mosque after it is an existing temple, by reviving all the peculiarities of the temple that have been destroyed by its collapse according to the religious narrative, a danger that transcends the temporal and spatial division of Al-Aqsa by jumping into the conflict over the nature and identity of Al-Aqsa.
